# Unit 9

• ### Data Analysis

In this unit we expand on prior knowledge of data analysis with:

We will also be analyzing the data more to include finding the measures of center:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1HEzNTGeZ4

• Mean (average)
• Median (middle, or 2nd quartile)
• Mode (most often)
• Range (difference between greatest and least)

http://www.mathsisfun.com/data/central-measures.html

• Lower quartile (or 1st quartile – the median of the lower half of data)
• Upper quartile (or 3rd quartile – median of the upper half of the data)
• Interquartile Range (the difference between the 3rd quartile and the 1st quartile)

We will also be describing the shape of the data:

• Uniform – equally spread across
• Symmetrical – shape of the left side is roughly the same as the shape of the right side
• Skewed right (positively skewed) – the mean is on the right side of the peak and it has a long right tail
• Skewed left (negatively skewed) – the mean is on the left side of the peak and it has a long left tail
