Bond Overview 2022

  • In the fall of 2021, the WPISD Facility Advisory Committee (FAC), made up of parents, staff, and community representatives, engaged in researching and examining the prospect of a future bond referendum to address existing and new facilities in Wills Point ISD.

The formation of the FAC stemmed from a unanimous recommendation by the WPISD Board of Trustees on November 8th, 2021, following a review of the district’s demographic growth data and current facility conditions, which triggered a district-wide review of campus capacity.

From November 2021 to February 2022, the FAC met to create a long-range plan for WPISD. During those months, they conducted facility tours, reviewed growth data trends for WPISD, deliberated a condition index developed by PBK Architects, and studied the current financial capacity of WPISD stakeholders.

Following a consensus on proposed projects and long-term facilities plan, the following was determined:

    • February 7th, the FAC representatives finalized their bond recommendation for the WPISD Board of Trustees.
    • February 14th, the WPISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the $71,965,000 million bond referendum for the May 7 election ballot.

The proposition includes a new Junior High School that will house grades 6-8. In this proposition, the grade alignment will be as follows:

    • Current Wills Point High School- Grades 9-12
    • New Wills Point Junior High- Grades 6-8
    • Current Wills Point Junior High to become 5th Grade Center- Grade 5 only
    • Current Woods Intermediate- Grades 2-4
    • Current Wills Point Primary School- Grades PreK-1
